ABSTRACT
The Teatro Sociale di Como inaugurates Night Season 2023/24, entitled GLEAM-X. Lo spazio sconosciuto and dedicated to the theme of space, understood both as a physical place and as something unknown, yet to be explored and for which we yearn.
The title chosen for this opening is W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, co-produced by the Teatri di OperaLombardia, together with Fondazione Teatro Verdi di Trieste and Opera Carolina, on stage at the Teatro Sociale di Como for the opening night on 28 September (with a repeat performance on Saturday 30), at 8.00 p.m., performances preceded as every year by the Under30 Primagiovani, on 26 September.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's most enigmatic opera sees Ivan Stefanutti, an experienced director, working on the direction, sets and costumes, who returns to sign a staging for OperaLombardia after the success of Il barbiere di Siviglia in a "gothic" version in 2021.
In this production, Stefanutti was inspired by the imagery of The Thousand and One Nights, with hues that recall the blue of the sky and shades reminiscent of the stars, in keeping with the theme of the Notte Season.
The opera will be performed in German, while the dialogues, by Stefano Simone Pintor, will be in Italian.
Conducting the company will be Maestro James Meena, the esteemed conductor, who will conduct the opera in the Italian tour and also in some upcoming performances at the Opera Carolina in Charlotte (USA).
The cast will include winners and finalists from the last editions of the AsLiCo Competition, such as the 2023 winners, Pasquale Greco as Papageno and Nicole Wacker as La Regina della Notte, and up-and-coming voices Lorenzo Martelli, who will be Monostatos, and Aoxue Zhu the Third Lady.
